Time to Quit – Days 5 – 12

It’s been more than a week since my last post and the Quit Effort is still going pretty well.

I’l admit to a couple of lapses over the last weekend when I gave into al-fresco drinking & smoking but I am pleased to say that this didn’t lead to a full on relapse and I’ve spent the vast majority of the last 8 days smoke free.

What’s really causing me issues at the moment is that I’ve pulled a muscle in my back. this means that my previous plan of getting “lots of exercise” has fallen somewhat by the wayside. It also means that I’ve got a second level of distraction for the cravings in my mind to exploit.

By and largeI’m managing this in the same way that I’ve maged all other cravings – by keeping busy and reminding myself of the positives of this process although I won’t lie – it is harder when one of the primary drivers behind quitting is denied to me – it was my decreasing stamina and ability to work out that prompted this a

I know it disagrees with what Allen says but I’m quite glad to have gotten the lapse out of the way (I always kinew there’d be one) and to have not fallen completely off the bandwagon.

The next big challenge will be this weekend at my birthday BBQ and the week after that at my stag do. If I can make it through those then I’m pretty much in the clear.

Even if I don’t, I’m committed to this long time. A lapse is acceptable provided it remains just that – a blip on an otherwise spotles regime.
